Week 4: Tuesday + Wednesday

On Tuesday I watched a document, The Final Year, from Netflix without subtitles. The document basically shows Barack Obama's last year of being president of the United States. The document is 1 hour 30 minutes long.

Today I read an article 'Japanese society: Inside out and outside in' (Sugimoto 2014). Interesting part of the article was about Japanese kanji characters and comparing them to Western alphabetics. Kanji charachters are more like "ideographic rather than phonetic; they represent an image of something, and thus nurtured a 'pictocentric' culture" (Sugimoto 2014: 197).

Reading, writing the word list (below) and underlining the main points of the article took me 2 hours and 15 minutes.
